Sean Dougherty Denounces Rep. Panetta for Dismissing ICJ Genocide Case

SANTA CRUZ, CA – Congressional candidate Sean Dougherty vehemently denounces Representative Jimmy Panetta for signing a letter attacking South Africa’s case alleging Israeli genocide against Palestinians at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

“I condemn Panetta’s complicity in enabling Israel’s systemic atrocities against Palestinians in no uncertain terms,” declared Dougherty. “Dismissing charges of genocide makes him an apologist for crimes against humanity.”

South Africa’s case details large-scale killing of Palestinians, destruction of homes, displacement, and blockade of essential services that constitute violations of the Genocide Convention. Panetta’s letter called the case “grossly unfounded” in an attempt to shield Israel from accountability.

“The evidence of Israel’s genocidal policies targeting the foundations of Palestinian life in Gaza is overwhelming,” said Dougherty. He attributed Panetta’s stance as stemming from loyalty to special interests over universal human rights and respect for international law. He vowed to promote accountability and rethinking unconditional diplomatic support enabling systemic abuses.

“Genocide is the most grave crime against humanity,” added Dougherty. “Rep. Panetta’s complicity in denying Israel’s atrocities further erodes America’s credibility as any kind of moral authority.”

Dougherty concluded political expediency should never take precedence over stopping genocidal violence. “I urge Mr. Panetta to reflect honestly, retract his statements attacking judicial processes, and start standing up for the human rights and the dignity of Palestinian victims.”

The Dougherty campaign welcomes inquiries from residents on promoting accountability, peace, and justice in response to mass atrocities.
